The festival of Gardians in Arles for the 1st May
Every year takes place on May 1 in Arles the festival of Gardians. It is a very beautiful moments of Provence. We are not yet in the tourist season. However the crowd is present .. All that makes the ” Real Provence ” is here. Gardians, horses, ladies, Toros, tradition. After the parade of Gardians and Arles, the Gardians will greet the statue of Frédéric Mistral on the Place du Forum. There followed a blessing of Gardians and a Mass in honor of St. George. After that, the day is dedicated to a large Provencal show, equestrian and bullfighting. Program 2017
9 am Rally of the gardians on the Lices
9:30 Parade of the guards of the Brotherhood, in town
10:30 blessing of the horses on the forecourt of Notre Dame de la Major followed by the Grand’Messe in Provençal
12 pm Delivery of the blessed loaves to the authorities
Presentation of the 23rd Queen of Arles and her bridesmaids at the balcony of the Hôtel de Ville
15h45 Grand spectacle at the Arena (General admission 10 € – free up to 12 years)
